Shrimp Today! Making Sense of a Fast-Changing Shrimp World
This year’s plenary opening session of the Global Shrimp Forum 2026 takes on an entirely new format. Co-hosted by our own Melanie Siggs and Pep Rosenfeld of Boom Chicago, Shrimp Today! brings the industry its very first shrimp-exclusive talk show.
The session kicks off with a keynote by Mike Every on the state of the global economy, geopolitics, and financial markets. Mike is part of the team led by Jan Lambregts, who unfortunately cannot join us this year — although insiders know Mike is often the man behind Jan’s famous slides.
Following the keynote, Melanie and Pep will welcome Jane Foley, Rabobank’s Head of FX, and Keyu Jin for a deeper conversation on how geopolitics is reshaping the shrimp industry. Together, they will explore currency markets, China’s economic outlook, and the implications of shifting global dynamics for trade, competitiveness, and demand.
Next, the spotlight turns to the industry itself. Joining the stage are Sandro Coglitore of Omarsa, Pawan Kumar of the Seafood Exporters Association of India, and Liris Madungityas of Jala. Together, they will discuss the defining developments shaping shrimp production and trade today: Ecuador’s continued expansion, India’s tariff and FTA roller coaster, Indonesia’s radioactive shrimp headlines, and the impact of conflict in the Middle East and El Niño on costs, logistics, and production outlooks across the major producing regions.
With no major producing country showing signs of slowing down production — and most still pursuing ambitious growth targets — many in the industry agree that stimulating shrimp consumption must remain a shared, pre-competitive priority. That is why we are pleased to welcome Gabriel Luna for an update on the progress of the Global Shrimp Council and the organization’s next chapter under its new Executive Director.
Before everyone heads to the welcome reception, Melanie and Pep will close the show with a quick-fire update from Robert DeHaan and Angel Rubio on the latest developments in US tariffs and what they could mean for shrimp demand in the months ahead.
Shrimp Today! — the perfect way to kick off your week at GSF.
