Erwin Suwendi is the Head of Nutrition and Feed Technology at the Aquaculture Division of JAPFA Group, one of the leading agri-food companies in Asia. Based at the headquarters in Jakarta, he currently leads feed formulation for various species, including freshwater fish (Nile tilapia, African catfish, common carp, and Pangasius), marine fish (milkfish, barramundi, pompano, and grouper), shrimp (white leg shrimp), and eel (Anguilla). He also manages quality control and laboratory processes to ensure that every step in the feed mill, from receiving raw materials to processing and finishing, complies with international standards such as ISO 9001:2015, ISO/IEC 17025, and BAP. Additionally, he oversees innovation, research, and development for nutrition, feed, and feeding management trials, emphasizing the creation of cost-effective, nutrient-balanced diets while minimizing waste output from aquaculture operations.
Erwin graduated with a BSc in Aquaculture from Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia. He completed his MSc in Nutritional Biochemistry from Hokkaido University, Japan, in 2011, where his work primarily focused on the impact of food components on gastrointestinal health. He further advanced his education by completing "The Advanced Aquaculture Nutrition Training Program" at the UG/OMNR FNRL, University of Guelph, Canada, in 2012. He pursued his PhD at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany, in 2015, focusing on the amino acid requirements and utilization at different weight classes of Nile tilapia and common carp, and the effect of different digestible energy levels on the amino acid requirements of these species.
