Prof. Dr. Rokhmin Dahuri was born in a fishing village in Cirebon Regency, West Java Province, Indonesia in November 16th, 1958. He received a PhD in Coastal and Marine Resource Management at School for Resources and Environmental Studies, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1991. He received a bachelor degree in Fisheries Biology and Management from Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB University) in 1981, and MSc degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from IPB University in 1986.
He has been a lecturer and professor at Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB University since 1986. He was appointed as Director General for Coastal and Small Island Management, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MoMAF), Republic of Indonesia (1999-2001); and then Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in 2001 to 2004. He was advisor of Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in 2010–2014; and then since 2020 to present. He has also been advisor of 10 governors of Indonesian Provinces since 2010 to present for marine and fisheries economic development.
He has been the President of Indonesia Aquaculture Society (since 2010); Chairman of Expert Board of Indonesian Fisheries Society (since 2010); Member of International Scientific Advisory Board of Center for Coastal and Ocean Development, University of Bremen, Germany (since 2005); Chairman of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle for Maritime and Fisheries Affairs.
He writes many books and papers in the field of coastal and ocean management, aquaculture, science and technology, education, and economic development published by both Indonesian and International Journals.
