Plenary: Shrimp Trade Statistics

Scope /
In this session, we will get you up to speed with the latest export and import statistics. After this session, you will have a good understanding of the latest changes in product and trade flows, which will give you food for thought for the remainder of the conference. We will present the trade statistics country by country and invite country representatives on stage to provide context and engage in discussion about the insights we discover. This session is a cornerstone of the Global Shrimp Forum's programme and will return for each annual event.

Melanie Siggs has worked internationally in strategic roles for both commercial and NGO organisations across the food and timber sectors. She has specialised in fisheries and aquaculture over the past 14 years. She is a consultant to the Global Seafood Alliance, Vice President of The Centre for Responsible Seafood and an Advisor to the World Economic Forum’s Ocean Program ‘Friends of Ocean Action’. Melanie is a former Special Adviser to HRH The Prince of Wales’ International Sustainability Unit. Melanie is a frequent speaker on sustainable seafood and a regular facilitator for UN FAO, The High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, OECD, World Economic Forum, and The Economist.

She is an Honorary Professor of the Heriot Watt University and holds an MSc in Responsibility & Business Practice (Bath).

Travis Larkin is CEO and owner of Seafood Exchange, a seafood importing and wholesale company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. He joined Seafood Exchange in 1997 from Darden Restaurants, where he handled shrimp procurement for Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and Bahama Breeze. He possesses extensive experience with production and procurement issues in Latin America and Asia, as well as product development and market issues relating to retail and food service markets in the U.S. He is actively involved in the Global Seafood Alliance and in the National Fisheries Institute, where he serves as chair of the Nominating Committee. He also has served on NFI’s Executive Committee, on the founding board of managers for its Better Seafood Board, and as president of the National Shrimp Industry Association. Travis earned an MBA at Brigham Young University. He and his wife Maria have raised three children.
