Khondokar Mahbubul Haque took over as Director General of Fisheries on December 30, 2021. He served as additional director general of the Department of Fisheries before being appointed as DG, DoF. Mr. Haque was born in the Tangail district of Bangladesh in the Gopalpur sub-district. He passed the SSC and HSC respectively from Jhawail Moharani Hemanthokumari secondary school in 1979 and Gopalpur College in 1981 under the Gopalpur sub-district of Tangail. Later, he graduated in Fisheries from Bangladesh Agriculture University in Mymensingh.

Khondoker Mahbubul Haque was appointed as a fisheries cadre officer in the 9th Bangladesh Civil Service Exam in 1991. During his tenure as fisheries cadre officer, he held positions such as sub-district fisheries officer, farm manager, assistant secretary, senior assistant secretary, District Fisheries Officer (DFO), and Divisional Deputy Director. Furthermore, he served as project director for two projects of Department of Fisheries, titled;National Agriculture Technology Programme, Phase II; and;Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries project. 

He received training in fisheries, training management, project development and implementation both at home and abroad in the United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Spain, and Malaysia. He was the divisional trainer and made significant contributions to training management and module development for the Department of Fisheries (DoF). He still involved with different social and cultural organizations.

He is the proud father of one son and one daughter in his personal life.
